Discover Our Icons
As now. As always. Our icons remain true to our craft, our heritage and our inspirations. Their distinctive silhouettes set them apart. So too do details and construction techniques that combine craftsmanship and innovation in equal measure.
The Original is 70
Even as we celebrate its 70th anniversary, the Desert Boot remains as instantly recognisable today as it was back in 1950 - because every last detail remains true to that revolutionary pioneer. It’s this versatility, this authenticity, that defines it as a true classic. Because, while the colours may change, the design will always remain the same - timeless, iconic, original.
The world’s first ever dress casual shoe, the inspiration for Nathan Clark’s seminal creation came from a seemingly unlikely source - the rough suede boots worn by off-duty army officers. After creating a newspaper prototype while stationed in Burma, on his return home Clark constructed a sample that would go on to become the boot we all know today.
Today, every single pair is still crafted to those original dimensions. From the length of the stitching to the 220 last and even the premium suede, which is still supplied by historic English tannery Charles F. Stead, each piece plays a vital part in delivering the perfect shape, one that moulds to the foot for a more personalised, more comfortable fit.
With an inherent beauty that stems from the simplicity of its design and construction, the Desert Boot has been adopted by revolutionaries, artists and original thinkers, and embraced by all walks of life, from the beatnik movement and MOD revival, to Britpop and the reggae and dancehall scenes.
It’s this versatility, this authenticity, that defines the Desert Boot as a true classic. Because, while the colours may change, the design will always remain the same - timeless, iconic, original.
Then. Now. Always.
